Crop Sequencing to Improve Productivity and Profitability in Irrigated Double Cropping Using Agricultural System Simulation Modelling

چکیده

Land and water are two major inputs for crop production. Simulation modelling was used to determine sequences that maximise farm return. Crop yield determined different irrigation scheduling scenarios based on the fraction of available soil (FASW). Farm returns ($ ML−1 $ ha−1) were evaluated seven sequences. Three price (dry, median, wet) considered. The summer crops increased with irrigation. For winter crops, despite increase in irrigation, would not increase. optimum (ML was: soybean 8.2, maize 10.4, wheat 2.5, barley 3.1, fababean canola 2.7. productivity curve has a parabolic shape, increasing FASW, reaching maximum value at FASW 0.4–0.6, then decreasing. decreases as increases following power function. Gross margins positive when is cheap ($60 ML−1) median ($124 ML−1). When expensive ($440 ML−1), gross margin be obtained only continuous scenario. Deficit leads significant loss. Supplemental results highest per unit water.

Identifying Irrigation Strategies for Improved Agricultural Water Productivity in Irrigated Maize Production through Crop Simulation Modelling

Identifying irrigation strategies that improve agricultural water use efficiency (WUE) have a pivotal role to play in sustainable water development. In this study, the AquaCrop model was used to examine the impact of different irrigation scheduling options on yields to identify viable strategies to enhance WUE for irrigated maize. Two scheduling scenarios at water application depths ranging fro...

Increasing Cropping System Diversity Balances Productivity, Profitability and Environmental Health

Balancing productivity, profitability, and environmental health is a key challenge for agricultural sustainability. Most crop production systems in the United States are characterized by low species and management diversity, high use of fossil energy and agrichemicals, and large negative impacts on the environment. We hypothesized that cropping system diversification would promote ecosystem ser...

Phosphorous and Mung Bean Residue Incorporation Improve Soil Fertility and Crop Productivity in Sorghum and Mungbean-Lentil Cropping System

In sorghum and mungbean – lentil cropping system, field experiments were conducted for three successive years to assess the effect of mung bean residue incorporation on sorghum and succeeding lentil productivity along with different doses of phosphorus (P; 0, 30, 60 kg ha−1) applied to these crops. The level of soil fertility was also tested with or without incorporation of mung bean residue. T...

Crop and varietal diversification of rainfed rice based cropping systems for higher productivity and profitability in Eastern India

Rice-rice system and rice fallows are no longer productive in Southeast Asia. Crop and varietal diversification of the rice based cropping systems may improve the productivity and profitability of the systems. Diversification is also a viable option to mitigate the risk of climate change. In Eastern India, farmers cultivate rice during rainy season (June-September) and land leftovers fallow aft...
